The Willis Flemming Memorial: A Tribute in Havenstreet
| The history of the Shrine, and the identical one at North Stoneham, Hampshire can be found on the Willis Fleming Historical Trust Website www.willisfleming.org.uk.

The Shrine on the hill overlooking Havenstreet village is dedicated to the memory of 2/Lt R T C Willis Fleming and contains memorialsto the other members of the family, in addition to plaques giving the names of those from Havenstreet and Binstead who died in the Great War.Carved in the lintel is the following inscription: “To the glory of God and to the dearly loved memory of their second sons Richard Thomas Cyril 2nd Lieut. 1st/1s Battery Hants R.H.A. Born Aug 3rd 1896 killed in action at the Battle of Romani Egypt Aug 4th 1916. And to the memory of those from the parishes of Binstead and Havenstreet who also laid down their lives in the Great War 1914-1919. This shrine is dedicated by John and Violet Fleming of Binstead House. | |
